A 37-year old Branchport man is in Yates County Jail on one-MILLION dollars bail after a violent Monday morning assault that has left a 67 year old town of Torrey woman battling for her life in the Intensive Care Unit at Strong Memorial Hospital.
Paul Khouzam is charged with assault, burglary and aggravated cruelty to an animal, all felonies, following an incident that occurred at an Arrowhead Beach Road residence between 4 and 5 a.m.
The Yates County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Seneca County 9-1-1 shortly before 6 a.m. about an alleged domestic incident. Just minutes after receiving the call, deputies arrested Khouzam as he was walking on Arrowhead Beach Road. The unidentified victim was found unconscious and bleeding in the basement of her home, having been allegedly bludgeoned and stabbed by dangerous instruments. She was airlifted to Rochester where she underwent emergency surgery for head and upper body injuries. She is currently listed in guarded condition. Deputies also discovered a small mixed breed Chihuahua belonging to the victim inside the home that was killed by Khouzam. It was taken to the Cornell University Animal Hospital for a forensic autopsy.
Khouzam was arrested around 7 Sunday evening by Yates County Sheriff’s Deputies in Branchport as a mentally ill person that was considered an endangerment to himself or others and was taken to Soldiers and Sailors Hospital. He was released from the hospital later Sunday night and returned to his Branchport home. Investigators say Khouzam drove to the Arrowhead Beach address early Monday morning and forced his way inside the home by breaking a large window by the front door.
