Auburn City Council on Thursday voted to go after mortgage lender Fannie Mae to recover the $47,000 cost to demolish an abandoned home on Sheridan Street that was destroyed by fire in April.
The city will use a recently passed state law that allows municipalities to recover demolition costs of privately owned residential properties by placing a lien against the proceeds from fire insurance
Meanwhile, the City’s road crews will continue to look after the Arterial for a long time. Council voted to extend the contract with the state to maintain the thoroughfare until 2049 and will receive about $5.5 Million from Albany over that time.
The agreement with the state has been in place since 1961 and the annual payments haven’t changed since the 80’s
