Former Auburn City Council member Thomas McNabb passed away on Tuesday at the age of 80.
Mr. McNabb served on city council from 1995-2011 and is the father of Cayuga County Legislator Aileen McNabb-Coleman.
He was a member of the Auburn Ancient Order of Hibernians for more than a half-century and was a Past National President and Secretary Emeritus. He is credited with starting many local Irish-American traditions, including the Friends of Ireland Annual St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon and Auburn’s Irish Festival.
AOH National President James McKay said his leadership set the standard for generations of Hibernian leaders to come who will seek to emulate, but never surpass him.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Cheche Funeral Home Inc., 1778 Clark St. Road. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Family Church. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
