A 27-year-old Syracuse man pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to online enticement of a minor after driving to Seneca Falls in June in an attempt to have sex with who he thought was a 12-year-old girl.
Charlie Conant faces 10 years to life in prison when sentenced in November.
The investigation into Conant began when a State Police investigator discovered a personal ad on a Syracuse website that appeared to be targeting minors for sex. The officer responded and allegedly struck up several conversations with Conant, which included requests from him for nude photos of the girl. After almost two months of no communication, Conant sent a text message to the undercover officer. He would later indicate he wanted to meet the teen for the purpose of having sex.
On June 14th, Conant drove to Seneca Falls to meet with the “minor” while her grandmother was supposedly at work. When he arrived at the determined meeting place, Conant was arrested.
