Two Waterloo women were seriously injured following an early morning accident on State Route 21 in the town of Naples.
The car was found off the north shoulder of the road and crashed into a tree. The driver, 55-year-old Galdys Sykes, had to be extricated by firefighters and was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of head and internal injuries. A passenger, 40-year-old Natalie Rivers, was also airlifted to Strong for treatment of a head injury. Investigators believe neither woman was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The cause is still being looked into.
A portion of State Route 21 was closed between Eelpot Road and State Route 53 while deputies reconstructed the accident.
