A sick horse has caused a shut down of one of the barns at Finger Lakes Gaming & Race Track in Farmington.
About 70 horses at the barn are under quarantine after one animal there fell ill. The horse was found to have a highly contagious respiratory disease, according to the Equine Disease Communications Center. The disease called “Strangles” is not fatal, but as a precaution one barn was quarantined to avoid spread of the disease. The race track last battled the same disease in 2014.
The sick horse came to Farmington from West Virginia.
