He adored his family and to Don, everyone he met somehow became a part of his family. His generosity and his need to care for others was endless. Don owned and ran an Insurance Agency (Wolcott Agency, Riedman Corp and Brown & Brown Insurance) in Wolcott for 30+ years. He was a staple in the community. He served on the School Board, rallied for many causes from the purchase of lights for the soccer field to being a supporter of the Arts; the benefactor of many students and community programs. He was everyone’s biggest fan whether at a soccer game, or High School Musical. He was one of the few people to own a video camera in the ’80s so he was a staple in every crowd! This passion continued as he followed his grandchildren’s athletics and his great-grand children’s activities. He loved to travel, always bringing along a stray or two. He passed on his love for the love of The Yankees to his children and it became a way for him to connect with people in his later years.
He survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Ellen Brennan Bucknam; their children Michael Bucknam (Joyce Stockwell) of Auburn, Mary Beth Bucknam Edmunds (Todd) of Ithaca, Meg Bucknam of Auburn; grandchildren Pierce, Shannan and Lauran Bucknam and Brennan, Riley and Finley Edmunds; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews
Don was predeceased by his father and mother,George and Mildred “Millie” Bucknam; his son, David Bucknam in 1998; and a brother, David in 2018.
