Charles Galens, age 85, passed away on Tuesday (July 10, 2018) at Rochester General Hospital.
In keeping with his wishes there will be no prior calling hours. A Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday (July 21) at St. Felix Church, Clifton Springs. A reception to further celebrate Charlie’s life and the 100th anniversary of Galens Homestead Acres will follow mass. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Agnes Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers friends may contribute to their favorite charity in Charlie’s memory.
Charlie was born August 15, 1932 in Clifton Springs the son of the late John and Emma Galens. He owned and operated Galens Homestead Acres and worked for many years at Clifton Springs Hardware Store. He also operated his own flower business for 10 years. Charlie was a Jack of all trades and enjoyed square dancing and auctioneering. He was a lifelong member of St. Felix Church and sat on many farm boards. Charlie played Santa for the Newark Developmental Center for many years. His door was always open and he found his greatest joy surrounded by friends and family. He will be sadly missed by all.
Charlie is survived by his beloved, Shirley; children Sharon, Sandra (Jeff), Lorelei (John), Stephen (Hope), Lawrence (Susan), James (Julie), Marianne (Vince) and Paul (Colleen); 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters Helen Crowley and Regina Krolak; many nieces and nephews; dear friend, Erna Christensen.
He is predeceased by his siblings Alma, Ruth, Lewis, Leon, Robert, Jack, William, Rosalie and Francis.
