Auburn City Council will vote during Thursday’s meeting to approve a $3 Million bond issue to finance renovations to Falcon Park that would turn the stadium from a baseball only park to a multi-sports facility that would be the home to Cayuga Community College sports teams as well as the Auburn Doubledays.
CCC Athletic Director Pete Liddell said on Wednesday’s Finger Lakes Morning News the Spartans’ new home for soccer, baseball and perhaps lacrosse would attract more student athletes to the college.
President Brian Durant said the project is more fiscally sound than the estimated $15 Million cost of an on-campus facility.
If City Council approves the bond, the College Board of Trustees will have to give its blessing to the project.
Durant says once final approval is given the work could get underway in hopes of having the turf installed for the 2019 spring baseball season.
