The New York State Health Department says recreational marijuana should become legal in the Empire State. In a report released on Friday, department officials say the positive effects outweigh any negatives.
The 74-page report, who was ordered earlier this year by Governor Andrew Cuomo, looked at a variety of issues related to legalizing pot in New York State.
Officials say legalized marijuana would generate as much as 678-million dollars in revenue for the state.
The state Legislature would have to approve a law that legalizes marijuana, which would not see a vote until January 2019 at the earliest.
