An Auburn man is Cayuga County’s latest NY State Lottery winner.
Yolanda Vega was a the Emerson Park traffic circle Express Mart on Friday morning to present a $1 Million dollar check to Carl Festa.
The father of four bought the Mega Scratch Off ticket when he stopped at the store to buy ice for a party for his wife. He told the crowd at the store on Friday that he originally bought the ticket for his wife. Instead, he sat in his car and scratched the ticket, and then could not believe what he saw.
Festa went home and his wife confirmed they had a winning ticket, but they didn’t tell anyone at the party that evening. The couple waited ten days and consulted an attorney before claiming their prize at the Lottery’s Syracuse office.
Festa chose the cash payout, giving him $537,440 after taxes. He said that after looking after his family, he and his wife are taking six friends on an all-expense paid trip to Aruba.
