Esther was born the daughter of the late Thorvald and Anna (Larsen) Jensen on Saturday (June 26, 1920) in Johnson City, N.Y. She graduated from Spencerport High School at the age of 16 in 1936. She worked at several places including Hilton School District, Latta Road Nursing Home, and Eastman Kodak Co., where she retired from in 1982. She had a great sense of humor and had a smile that always lit up the room. Esther enjoyed cross stitching, many of her works are displayed at our funeral home. She enjoyed reading, spending time with friends, puzzles, and playing games especially Euchre. Her grandchildren have many memories of GeeGee teaching and playing games with them. When she entered the nursing home in 2012 she quickly made friends with residents and staff. She soon received the title “The Welcoming Committee” for always being there to welcome new residents. She will be greatly missed by residents and staff at the nursing home. Esther was looking forward to becoming a great-great-grandma to a baby girl in August. Our families feel blessed to have had Esther’s wisdom and love a part of our lives for 98 years.
Esther will be remembered by her daughters Judith (Richard) Smith, Rebecca (Norman) Waterman; son, Richard Van Gee; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Edith Jensen.
Esther was predeceased by her husband, Charles L. Van Gee in 1984; daughter, Beverly in 1949 and son, Douglas in 2013; brothers and sisters-in-law Harold (Millie), Alfred (Betty), Jack (Gladys) and Thorvald Jensen.
