A faulty vent line is being looked at as the possible cause of a boat fire at 454 Bercs Bar Bay Road in the town of Jerusalem Sunday.
The boat’s owner, Donald Fish, of Prattsburgh, had just finished fueling the vessel and left the dock area when an explosion occurred. The motor compartment cover was blown off the boat and flames emerged. Fish and his passenger, Sandra Barge, of Prattsburgh, jumped into the water and escaped injuries.
When Branchport-Keuka Park firefighters arrived on scene, the fire had extinguished itself. The faulty vent line is being looked at as the cause since gasoline was found in the bottom of the engine compartment. The amount of damage caused to the boat is unknown at this time.
