AUBURN, NY – The Harriet Tubman Home Inc. (HTH) and the National Park Service (NPS) are pleased to announce fee free programs and expanded hours at the Harriet Tubman Home in July and August. Two NPS park rangers will work alongside staff from HTH to provide free tours and programs to the public and have the Harriet Tubman Home open on Sundays during the height of the summer season.
“The summer months are our busy season,” said HTH President and CEO Karen Hill. “It’s great to have the opportunity to explore the dynamic of fee free tours as we work through the processes with the National Park Service. While the programs we are providing are free to the public, HTH relies partly on visitor donations to support our operations. We hope that our July and August visitors enjoy the experience and are inspired to make a voluntary contribution in the donations boxes located in the park. We are having a good experience with the NPS personnel here in Auburn. HTH looks to the partnership being robust and beneficial to the mission of sharing the legacy and core values of Harriet Tubman with everyone.”
“The addition of two temporary park rangers allows NPS to help our partners at HTH build capacity while exploring the many ways that we can complement each other’s efforts,” said Harriet Tubman National Historical Park project lead Frank Barrows. “We are thrilled to work with HTH to provide expanded services and fee free programming for visitors to Harriet Tubman National Historical Park this summer.”
The Harriet Tubman Home’s hours for July and August will be Tuesday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Free tours will be conducted daily at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. The Harriet Tubman Home will be closed on Mondays. Fees will still apply for group tours (groups of 25 people or more), which will be offered exclusively by HTH staff.
Harriet Tubman National Historical Park connects visitors to Tubman’s homestead of almost 50 years and the lesser-known story of this remarkable woman’s life in freedom.
