UPDATE – THURS. 2:30 p.m.
The Auburn Police Department reported Thursday afternoon the child is still listed in critical condition at Upstate Hospital. Although the investigation is continuing at this time, there appears to be nothing criminal that occurred and police are just labeling Tuesday’s incident a “tragic accident.”
The family plans on holding a vigil Friday night at 7 at Hoopes Park in Auburn.
Auburn Fire and Police responded on Tuesday morning to a report of an unconscious infant who had fallen into a swimming pool at a residence at the intersection of Nelson and Seymour Streets.
Auburn Fire Assistant Chief Mark Fritz responded to the call at 10:40am.
The child, who turns two this month, was airlifted to Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse. Auburn Police Det. Megan Kalet stated in a release the child was in critical condition.
The investigation by Auburn Police is continuing.
