Support is building for acting Geneva city manager Sage Gerling to be named the next city manager.
The news blog-Geneva Believer-reports that Gerling is one of three finalists for the city manager’s job. The other two on are men, and the blog reports both have a checkered work history. Last week about a dozen community members chanted “We Want Sage” outside of city hall as the city council held an executive session to discuss the three candidates for the job. Before taking on the role of acting city manager Gerling was the Geneva Director of Neighborhood Initiatives.
Geneva City officials have said they would not release the names of the city manager candidates because it would violate their privacy as some of them may not want their current employers knowing that they are searching for other jobs. According to “Geneva Believer” the two men that are finalists for the Geneva job are not currently working, so they have identified one of the men.
He is former Oneonta city manager Martin Murphy. The blog reports Murphy resigned under a cloud of allegations related to poor management and mistreatment of Oneonta city employees, agreeing to a settlement with the city.
