The driver of the car involved in a one-car accident in the town of Elmira in April of 2017 that killed a teenage girl has been arrested by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.
32-year-old Omayra Martin, of Elmira, is charged with criminally negligent homicide, assault and endangering the welfare of a child. Martin was traveling east on West Hill Road when she lost control of her car and drove off the road. Her vehicle drove into a ditch, struck a tree, overturned and came to rest on its roof. 15-year-old Alishia Butler, also of Elmira, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three of the five child passengers in the car were airlifted to different hospitals with life-threatening injuries.
Martin is being held in Chemung County Jail pending her arraignment.
