Our family is sad to announce that John F. Carroll Jr. of Fort Myers Fla. passed away peacefully on Tuesday (June 19) at Health Park Hospital Fort Myers, Fla. with loved ones by his side.
Family and friends may attend John’s Mass of Christian Burial on Friday (July 13) at 11 a.m. The service will be held at Our Lady of Peace Parrish (St. Stephens Church) on 48 Pulteney St. in Geneva, N.Y. A reception will follow at the Geneva Country Club.

John was born to John “Wannie” and Dorothy Carroll on June 5, 1938. He was raised in Geneva, N.Y. and attended DeSales High School Where he was a Letterman on the basketball and golf teams. He went on to become a four year starter on the St. Bonaventure golf team and helped the team go undefeated for two straight years. Though not affiliated with a conference the Bonnies beat most of the best golf programs on the East coast. John went on to graduate in 1961.He married his high school sweetheart Frances Buck and settled in to start a family and career in Geneva. John went to work for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company where he remained an agent for more than fifty years. He was celebrated by the Rochester Agency as their Agent of the year many times. John was also recognized by the Company for his numerous awards in production and high ranking among all agents nationally. His success allowed him to qualify for conventions and company functions which took John and Francey to many wonderful locations around the world. Over the years John was a member of many civic organizations including Kiwanis, Lions Club and he was very proud of his lifetime membership with Nester Hose Co. #1 Volunteer Firefighters. John was also a member of Seneca Lake and Clifton Springs Country Clubs.
After family and career John’s passion was with the game of golf. His natural talent and competitive nature allowed him to win dozens of tournaments over his lifetime. He started winning as a teenager and continued his good play by shooting his age many times while in his seventies. Of his many highlights some of his best include winning the Finger Lakes Championship 8 times, the Geneva City Tourney 7 times, the Corning Best Ball 6 straight years with a total of 7 victories, 6 Seneca Lake Club Championships, 15 Holes In One and so many more. He was inducted into the Geneva Sports Hall of Fame in 1992. For the last 18 years The Carroll’s have made their home at Fiddlesticks CC. where they have played two great courses with many great friends. He will be missed by all especially Mary Ellen and Bill Coffey.
John is survived by his wife of fifty eight years, Frances B Carroll of Ft. Myers, Fla.; three sons Christopher Carroll of Ft. Myers, Fla., James Carroll of Ft, Myers Fla. and John Carroll III (Maria Stella) of Geneva N.Y.; one daughter, Tracey (Kevin) Bradley of Seneca Castle N.Y.; three grandchildren Corey Bradley Meyn, Ryan Brophy and Ryleigh Bradley; two great-grandchildren Abigail and Charlie Meyn; sister, Mary Ellen (William) Coffey; great family friend, Eileen Jones; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Bartlett and brother, David Carroll.
