It was a noisy but relatively peaceful afternoon outside the Nucor Steel plant in Auburn as Vice President Mike Pence was inside touting the Trump tax relief plan. Anti-Trump demonstrators far outnumbered Trump supporters and most signs and chants opposed the administration’s immigration policy.
Organizer Sue Waby said children should not be separated from their parents.
Waby disputed the administration’s contention that many children enter the country unaccompanied or with non-family members and child traffickers.
At one point prior to the Vice President’s arrival, police stepped between both sides after several protesters crossed to the pro-Trump side of York Street in a brief confrontation that was kept to just verbal taunts being tossed back and forth.
