Virginia Lawrence Garrett Spaid, age 95, of 3640 Black St., Scipio Center, NY passed away on June 12, 2018.
Graveside services will be held at Springbrook Cemetery in Seneca Falls on Tuesday, June 19 at 11 am with Rev. Larry Bell officiating.. Remembrances may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, Trinity Lane, Seneca Falls 13148.
Born on May 3, 1923, she was the daughter of Dorothy Crane and Leon Edward Lawrence of Tyre, N.Y. and lived most of her life in Seneca Falls.
“Ginny” was born at the homestead of her great grandfather Edward Lawrence in Tyre. The family later moved to a home in Tyre built by her great grandfather Crane. She attended country schools through eight grades and later graduated from Mynderse Academy, class of 1940. In 1945 she married Charles Garrett and they lived in Junius until his passing in 1949. She was employed at Goulds Pumps, Inc and worked there until Sylvania Electric Products moved to Seneca Falls. She transferred to Sylvania as Secretary to the Product Marketing Manager, Color Picture Tubes and retired from there in 1978.
In 1972 she married Elton Spaid, and they enjoyed their mutual retirement years until his passing in 2002. She then moved to Scipio Center, NY to live adjacent to her daughter and son-in-law.
Known as “Denny” to her family, she always loved seeing her siblings and their offspring. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, oil painting, bowling, golf and reading. She became a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Seneca Falls in 1941 and was very active until moving to Scipio Center in 2002 to be near family. She also served as a volunteer with Seneca Ambulance.
Mrs. Spaid is survived by daughter, Kathleen Garrett (Guy) Garnsey, Scipio Center; and step-children Nancy Spaid (Jerome) Cowan, Auburn, and Gary (Donna) Spaid, West Henrietta, Evelyn Tiaskkun, Tyre N.Y., four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by sisters Harriett Wise, Victor, N.Y., Helen Senger, Greece, N.Y., Wanda Dyson and Janice LaBour of Seneca Falls; and brothers Edward, Ralph, Leon and John, all of Tyre, and grandson, Roy Garrett Garnsey.
