The Inspector General’s office has released its 500 page report into the conduct of the FBI and other government officials in relation to the Hillary Clinton email investigation.
Republicans are crowing about the report and claiming victory. Well, of course they are. If the New York Times ran a story headlined “Trump Colluded with Russia: We Have the Proof” Republicans would say, “see, no collusion.” It’s how they roll. So for the portion of the universe that still deals in facts and truth, here’s what the report says:
FBI Director James Comey acted improperly in his public comments in July, 2016 blasting Clinton’s use of a private email server while admitting she had committed no crime and in his October, 2016 comments that the investigation would be reopened because of emails found on a computer belonging to former Congressman Anthony Weiner, who was married to top Clinton aid Huma Abedin. Comey’s October comments, along with the massive Russian disinformation campaign we learned about later, probably allowed Trump to win an election he would not have won otherwise.
One of the things for which Comey was criticized was the hypocrisy of blasting Clinton’s private email use while he was doing THE EXACT SAME THING HIMSELF! Kind of like when Newt Gingrich was clutching his pearls over Bill Clinton’s marital infidelity.
The Republican talking point is that they were right all along, the director of the FBI was bad. What it leaves out is that his bad behavior IS THE PRIMARY REASON THEIR GUY GOT ELECTED!!!!
What about the infamous tarmac meeting between Bill Clinton and Attorney General Loretta Lynch? Turns out Democrats were right all along, it was much ado about nothing. The report says Lynch should have done more to prevent the conversation from taking place. “Hey, get off my plane, you big galoot and send my best to Chelsea.”
One of the biggest items of Republican glee is the disclosure of a previously unknown text message between FBI love birds Lisa Page and Peter Strzok in which Strzok assures Page “we’ll stop it,” meaning the election of Trump. Of course, he DIDN’T stop it, nor is there any evidence that he made any attempt to do so in any official capacity. Peter Strzok, you are guilty of the high crime of being a dumb ass.
So in the final analysis, the FBI Director helped get Donald Trump elected and a lot of other people did kind of dumb, non-criminal things that didn’t matter. Wow, that really makes Democrats look bad……in the alternate reality world in which today’s Republican party lives.
