The Finger Lakes Institute, Corning Incorporated, and USGBC will host the 5th Annual Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) Seminar the afternoon of Thursday, Aug. 9, at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Geneva, New York.
HABs are certain types of algae which negatively impact the quality of water and produce toxins harmful to people and animals. HABs have been found in most counties in New York, prompting Gov. Andrew Cuomo to launch a $65 million plan last year to address issues caused by the invasive species.
Last year’s seminar attracted nearly 100 members of the public, and included presenters from the Finger Lakes Water Hub, Rochester Institute of Technology, and O’Brien & Gere. Visit USGBC’s website at www.usgbc.org/chapters/usgbc-new-york-upstate for more information closer to the event.
