Cayuga County Legislator Joseph Bennett is scheduled to be reappointed to his District 10 seat at a special Legislature session on Tuesday evening.
Bennett resigned from the Legislature last month in order to be eligible to collect his pension from his job at Cayuga Community College. The Auburn Citizen reports Bennett submitted his resignation letter on May 30, a day before retiring from his job at CCC to comply with the state law that prohibits so-called “double dipping.” The law prohibits receiving a pension while remaining a public employee in another position.
Bennett is in his second term after being re-elected in 2015. If he is reappointed, he could face a special election a year early.
