Congressman Tom Reed says any proposed law that would take guns away from people must be met with certain standards that do not violate 2nd Amendment rights. Reed made the comments when asked about Governor Cuomo’s proposal of a “Red Flag” bill that would allow teachers, police officers, and family members seek a court order to remove guns from a potentially dangerous person.
Reed says he would like to see people focus on another aspect of gun violence.
The Corning Republican says he would not be in favor of Cuomo’s “Red Flag” bill if it involved arbitrarily removing guns. Cuomo advanced his bill Tuesday in an effort to reduce school shootings.
“Injection sites are controversial for this opioid dependence epidemic,” Yates County Sheriff Ron Spike said. “Because of some jail success stories, I would advocate using the Vivitrol program that is a non-addictive, once-monthly shot used with counseling so we can treat the person’s addiction.”
