A Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputy is recovering from her injuries after being struck by a car while conducting a traffic stop on State Route 104 in Sodus Saturday night.
Deputy Caitlin Fitzgerald was struck by 31 year old Mauricio Mundo after he allegedly failed to move over for multiple emergency vehicles that had their emergency lights on. Mundo hit Fitzgerald and fled the scene. He was stopped a short-time later and was charged with assault, drunken driving, leaving the scene of an accident and other vehicle infractions. He was allegedly driving with a .17-percent BAC.
Following his arraignment, Mundo was sent to Wayne County Jail. Deputy Fitzgerald was treated at Strong Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and released.
