The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office has just released details of a fatal car accident that happened Saturday afternoon on Marshall Road in the town of Fayette.
At around 4 o’clock, deputies attempted to pull over a vehicle that was traveling north on Route 96 for speeding. When deputies turned on their emergency lights, the driver of the car, 67-year-old Larry Murphy, of Palmyra, pulled to the side of the road, but then merged back into traffic, refusing to stop. Murphy continued driving north, nearly striking other cars traveling in the same direction at speeds between 50 and 60 mph. He then turned west onto County Road 120, where he lost control of his car on a curve and hill crest. The vehicle left the road and sideswiped a telephone pole, before overturning and coming to rest in a field. Murphy was ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation revealed that Murphy’s license was revoked and that alcohol might have been a contributing factor in Saturday’s incident.
The investigation continues.
