At the annual Middlesex-Rushville-Gorham Memorial Day observance at the Middlesex Hose Company, retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Heather Alexander Hearn reminded the audience of the solemn nature of the holiday.
Hearn said it’s important to keep alive the stories of service and the sacrifices made by those who served their country.
The Grand Marshal for the parade was retired Army Sergeant Lionel G. “Hap” Metivier, who fought in the Battle of the Bulge in World War 2. The memorialized veteran was Army Corporal Julian Lafler, who was killed in the invasion of Anzio, Italy in World War 2. This year’s honored veteran is Roger Soucie, who served in the Marine Corps, retired, then enlisted in the Army.
