An early morning fire roared through a ranch style home on County Road 36 in the Town of Naples Tuesday morning killing two people. 94 year old Mariam Fleischman’s body would be found in the basement of her home just outside her bedroom. Her 64 year old tenant Michael Schenk also could not escape. Both bodies have been sent to the Monroe County Medical Examiners office for autopsy according to Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero.
It will take a lot of time to go through the rubble to determine where and how the fire started.
He says the Naples community is badly shaken by the deaths.
The fire was first called in by a passing motorist just before 4AM. By the time fire crews arrived the home was fully engulfed in flames.
One body was recovered from a house fire in Naples this morning and there are reports a second body was recovered this afternoon.
The home on County Road 36 was owned by 94 year old Mariam Fleischman. 64-year old Michael Schenk also lived there. His body was found this morning. Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero briefed reporters at a late morning news conference.
State Fire investigators are also working the scene. More through the afternoon.
