Ceremony recognizes new volunteers following the completion of their training
Canandaigua, N.Y. – The Ontario County Youth Court, a program of the Partnership for Ontario County, announces the date of its Annual Celebration & Induction Ceremony to recognize new volunteers following the completion of their training. The event will be held on Wednesday, June 6th from 6pm – 8pm at the Finger Lakes Community College Auditorium, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive, Canandaigua, NY 14424.
For over five weeks, more than 50 students from four counties and 14 school districts have participated in a rigorous training to prepare them to fill the roles of the courtroom. These students will be inducted as full members of Youth Court at the end of the event. In addition, senior Youth Court members graduating in June will be honored in appreciation of their years of service.
Attendance at this event is by invite only. Invited guests include, but are not limited to, new YC members, current YC members, their families, YC program funders, and local elected officials.
A dessert reception will be held immediately following the ceremony in the LeChase Construction Auditorium Lobby.
Ontario County Youth Court is a voluntary alternative to the traditional criminal justice system for young people who have committed certain violations, misdemeanors, or have breached a student code of conduct. Offenders who choose to come before Youth Court have their case heard by a jury of their peers, avoid attorney fees, and are not labeled a juvenile delinquent. Youth Court members are student volunteers in grades 8-12 that have completed a rigorous 20 hour training to prepare to fill the various roles of the courtroom. The training is conducted by real judges, attorneys, probation officers, law enforcement, and other professionals. Members can then assume the roles of Judge, Bailiff, Prosecution, Defense, and Jury.
