The GoFundMe page created by the Herman Avenue Elementary School parent teachers organization to fund a new playground has been shut down.
The Auburn Citizen reports the PTO announced it will return the $1,800 in donations after the school district said it is exploring the possibility of using a capital project to replace the playground.
The playground was shut down earlier this month, but School District Superintendent Jeff Pirozzolo reported repairs were made to some parts of the aging jungle gym.
The district is expected to present three different capital project ideas to the district’s board of education in July before getting opinions from the community on the projects. Each of them will include a new playground for the school.
