The two Seneca Falls parents accused of beating their 3-year-old son to death this week will be arraigned on a 12-count indictment Thursday morning in Seneca County Court.
Authorities say Alison and Donald Bovio, the boy’s mother and stepfather, hit 3-year-old Panagiotis Stephanides-Vacchino with a belt causing his head to hit the floor.
The toddler died Wednesday, following a 4-day stint on life support.
Seneca Falls Police and Seneca County District Attorney Barry Porsch have released more information about 3-year old boy taken to the hospital last weekend.
At a news conference late Thursday afternoon, they said the boy – Panagiotis Stephandides-Vacchino, known as Peter, died Wednesday at 1:42pm when he was taken off life support at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse.
A Seneca County Grand Jury today returned a 12-count indictment against Peter’s parents- Stepfather 38-year old Donald Bovio and Mother 38-year old Alison Bovio.
They are charged with:
- 3 counts of Murder in the 2nd degree
- 2 counts of Manslaughter in the 1st degree
- Manslaughter in the 2nd degree
- 2 counts of Assault in the 2nd degree
- Reckless assault of child
- Criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree
- 2 counts of Endangering the welfare of a child
Donald Bovio called 911 on Saturday night seeking medical assistance for his stepson after the boy reportedly fell down the stairs with the family’s Peterman Road apartment.
Responding officers found the boy unresponsive and he was airlifted to Upstate. Hospital officials say the boy’s injuries were inconsistent with a fall.
Donald and Alison Bovio will now answer the charges in Seneca County Court. There court appearance will be scheduled in the next couple of days.
The young Seneca Falls boy had been on life support since early Sunday morning.
An autopsy is being performed by the Ononadaga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
