The Port Byron couple accused of soliciting donations by falsely claiming their 10-year son had cancer were in court on Wednesday night.
Cayuga County Sheriff’s detectives arrested Martin and Jolene LaFrance two weeks ago following four month investigation. Their now-closed GoFundMe page had raised $3,334 in donations.
Syracuse.com reports they pleaded not guilty to fraud charges and endangering the welfare of a child. Montezuma Town Court Judge Cary Eldridge released the couple without bail. If they’re found guilty they could face up to five years in prison and $6,000 in fines.
