He was born and raised in Marion, N.Y. to the late Abram and Mary Dayton Luteyn, where as a young man he began farming. He had a beautiful singing voice and formed a quartet in high school. The quartet would often sing for many churches and organizations. As Don grew into adulthood, he left farming and worked construction, operating heavy equipment. While in retirement, Don returned to farming with his wife, Clara. Together they raised a menagerie of exotic birds and animals. Don was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 832. He was a charter member and first president of the Pioneer Gas Engine Association, incorporated in 1964. Don enjoyed puttering in his flower beds and mowing lawns for his neighbors. Don was a very kind man and will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
Survived by his step-daughter, Jacqueline (Dan) McLaughlin of Newark; step-son, Ronald (Debra) Finewood of Marion; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his four-legged friend, Julie.
Don was predeceased by his wife, Clara Luteyn in 2015; and son, Donald Luteyn, Jr. in 2013.
