Lonnie Austin, age 70, passed away in Stanford, California, on April 15, 2018.
Private services will be held by the family in California and in New York.
Lonnie graduated from Clyde High School in 1966. He worked as an auto parts manager at Leo Del Rossa’s Ford Dealership, Lyons, N.Y., until he retired due to failing health. In November of 1982, Lonnie moved to California, where he was accepted into an experimental heart-lung transplant program at Stanford Hospital. While living in California he met and married his wife, Margaret, on October 16, 1984. After waiting nine and a half years, on the night of December 7, 1991, Lonnie received his gift of a heart and double-lung transplant. He lived the next 27 years to the fullest with the support of his wife and family enjoying fishing, playing the guitar, and volunteering at his local community services and assisting in kitchens for those in need.
Lonnie was the beloved husband of Margaret (Chasuk) Austin, Mountain View, Calif., for 33 years. Lonnie is survived by his daughter, Renae David, Auburn, N.Y.; his son, Lonnie Donald (LD) Austin, Lyons, N.Y.; sister, Marie Garrow, Clyde, N.Y.; three grandchildren; three nieces, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
