A Bath man is in Steuben County Jail after being charged with manslaughter.
37-year-old Matthew Taft is also charged with felony criminal sale and possession of a controlled substance and falsifying business records, all felonies. Its alleged Taft sold a mixture of fentanyl and heroin to Joshua Rowe on August 26th of last year in the village of Bath. Rowe used the drug and overdosed. Police say Taft knowingly failed to take any actions or precautions to aid Rowe, thus recklessly causing his death. Taft then provided law enforcement with a false statement in addition to concealing certainly physical evidence.
Taft faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted of the manslaughter charge.
