A Community Tree Planting event has been planned in celebration of Earth Day April 22nd from 1p-3p.
In collaboration with the Village of Dundee, the Dundee Rotary and Our Town Rocks are celebrating Earth Day planting a variety of saplings in the Millard Park Extension, located off Union Street. 150 Saplings have been ordered – 15 each of 10 approved varieties. Dundee Rotary will offer Hot Dogs and Soda/Water tree to all who plant a tree in the park or take home for planting. The Village of Dundee Public Works Department will auger and stake holes for the saplings to be planted in…remaining saplings will be given to residents desirous of trees for their home.
The 150 saplings were donated by the Virginia Conservation Legacy Fund, Inc. and the ERP Environmental Fund. VCLF is a nonprofit organization seeking sustainable approaches and public awareness about natural resource use. VCLF has conserved over 30,000 acres of land, including Virginia’s Natural Bridge. VCLF is working to reclaim land across Appalachia, educate people about the effects of climate change, find a viable economic future for people and communities that depend on mining, enhancing health resources for all, and encourage collaboration and cooperation.
The primary objective of ERP Environmental Fund is to reduce the rate of growth of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) through global reforestation and by incentivizing coal consumers to accelerate the reduction of CO2 pollution. We sell compliant fuels, which bundle carbon credits with coal sales to produce a compliance instrument, effectively reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
ERP Environmental Fund recently acquired a 350,000 sq. ft. commercial greenhouse in Newark, NY to support its reforestation efforts. During its first growing season, more than 40,000 saplings were produced. These saplings have reached an appropriate stage for permanent site planting and will be available for reforestation and restoration projects in Spring and Fall of 2018.
