You have probably seen the giant windmills all across New York, and soon you could be seeing massive solar farms.
Cayuga County is considering building a solar farm behind the county jail and sheriff’s office on County House Road. The plan is part of a five-county project called Solarize CNY developed by the Central New York Regional Planning & Development Board.
According to the Citizen, if it’s built, the solar farm could generate 5 megawatts of power, enough electricity to power all county operations with some left over to sell to the public at reduced rates.
Smaller projects are being considered by the village of Union Springs, the towns of Owasco, Scipio and Brutus and at Wells College in Aurora and the Auburn City Landfill.
