The first major road construction project in Auburn is underway.
The intersection of Prospect Street and Franklin Street will be temporarily closed from Monday to Thursday so city crews can replace a 6” water main that runs under the intersection. This includes installation of a new 6” water main, complete excavation of the old water main and reconstruction/repair of the road surface. No vehicular traffic will be allowed through the intersection during this closure.
The project will require a water service shut-off scheduled for Monday from 11am – 3pm that will impact properties on Prospect Street from Franklin Street to Boyle Avenue and on Franklin Street from Prospect Street to N. Marvine Avenue.
Meanwhile, MacIntosh Drive will be opened to vehicle traffic on Monday morning. Construction crews will then relocate to mobilize for the replacement of the road culvert on Schwartz Drive. The detour signs and road closure devices for Schwartz Drive will then be put in place.
Schwartz Drive will then be closed to through traffic. This will occur by noon on Monday. Replacement of the Schwartz Drive culvert is expected to last through mid-summer. Local traffic only will be allowed on Schwartz Drive which runs through the Standard Woods apartments complex.
