An Ontario County Grand Jury convened last week and determined Canandaigua Police Sergeant Scott Kadien was justified in the use of deadly physical force resulting in the shooting death of Sandy Guardiola last October at Pinnacle North Apartments. Ontario County District Attorney Jim Ritts said Sgt. Kadien was clearly identifiable when he arrived at Guardiola’s residence.
The Grand Jury heard from multiple witnesses, reviewed medical records and viewed photographs from the scene. Canandaigua Police were asked to check the welfare of the 48-year-old Guardiola last October 4th after fellow parole officers became worried about her. Ritts said investigators don’t know why Guardiola pulled her 9mm service weapon from beneath her pillow on Sgt. Kadien that day.
