The leader of the New York Republican Party says Gov. Cuomo’s casino plan has come up craps.
In a statement released on Thursday, Ed Cox called Cuomo’s plan an ill-fated scheme to place casinos in an oversaturated market, and it is the latest in a string of failed economic development disasters designed to bolster his re-election rather than fix Upstate’s economy. Cox added it was a $2 million pay-to-play operation destined to fail, and the warning signs were there.
Cuomo said on Wednesday the state will not bail out del Lago Resort and Casino. His comments came a day after del Lago principal owner Thomas Wilmot was in Albany, where he said he would seek concessions from the state to help del Lago’s long-term financial effort just over a year after the resort opened.
