Known to everyone as “Grandma T” she will be remembered for always having her door open, the cookie jar full and the right medicine for that scraped knee or her hugs and kisses that cured anything! She was the heart of her family and is missed already.
“Grandma T” took her fashion cues from no one. Her signature, every day look was looking like she just walked off the cover of a fashion magazine. Her well-coiffed hair, earrings , scarf or necklace and make-up every day made her ready to go at the drop of a hat. She loved to travel and was game for just about anything.
Beulah was born July 28, 1926 in Ithaca, N.Y. to the late Smith and Fayette Hine. Beulah graduated from Newfield High School and worked for a short time as a nurse’s aide. She married Bill on August 20, 1944. Bill worked for the New York State Park Commission and they were soon located to Cayuga State Park where they raised their six children. In her early years, Beulah spent the majority of her time raising her family. She enjoyed cooking and sewing and was a member of the Red Jacket Fire Department Auxiliary. Beulah and her husband, Bill, were recognized and July 28, 2016 by the New York State Parks Commission by dedicating a Lakeside Pavilion and monument with a plaque for their “four decades of service to guests of the Finger Lakes State Park. Cayuga Lake State Park was their home and visitors were always welcomed as family”.
Beulah’s greatest joy in life was her husband and family. She is survived by her six children Clifford (Dianna) Tompkins of Ladera Ranch, Calif., Daniel (Gail) Tompkins of Geneva, N.Y., Mark Tompkins of Brooklyn, N.Y., Bruce Tompkins of St. Pete’s Beach, Fla., Dawn (Reginald) DeRue of Seneca Falls, N.Y., Dale (Maureen) Tompkins of Rock Hill, S.C.; sixteen grandchildren Scott (Jennifer) Tompkins of Irvine, Calif, Cheri (Robert) Walsh of Brooklyn, N.Y., Sonnie (William) McVicker of Berkeley, Calif., Tonia (Marc) Tanguay of Mission Viejo, Calif., Heather (Chelsey) Tompkins of Penn Yan, N.Y., Jeffrey (Julia) Tompkins of Fort Collins, Colo., Danielle (Greg Peduzzi) Tompkins of Webster, N.Y., Curtis Tompkins of Geneva, N.Y., Mark (Christine) Tompkins and Jill (Greg) Snyder of Seneca Falls, N.Y., Sandra Tompkins of Rochester, N.Y., Jessica (Mark) Jones of Penfield, N.Y., Stephanie (Edward) Kelm of Fairport, N.Y., Colin (Cassandra Dunn) DeRue of Manchester, N.Y., Christopher Olsen of Middletown, Va., Timothy Olsen of Lancaster, N.C.; twenty-one great grandchildren; and brother, LeMont (Ginny) Hine of Newfield, N.Y.
