James W. “Puff” Liberatore, age 96, passed away Sunday (March 18, 2018) at M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center in Canandaigua.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday (March 31) at 11 a.m., at the United Church, 11 Gibson St., Canandaigua.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Church Memorial Fund, 11 Gibson St., Canandaigua, NY 14424.
Jim was a US Army veteran and served in the European Theatre during WWII. He worked at the former Geneva Auto Company for many years and retired from the NYS Thruway Authority in 1984. Jim and Millie were formerly of Phelps, where they raised their family, moving to Canandaigua in 1981. He was a longtime scoutmaster in his younger years and a member of the Masons and the American Legion. After his retirement, Jim enjoyed fishing on Canandaigua Lake with his grandson and taking cross country trips with his wife. He was a talented mechanic as well as an accomplished culinary artist in the kitchen. Jim was well known for his jams, chili sauce, pies and cookies.
He is survived by three sons Thomas Liberatore (Liz Perkins), Ted (Joanne) Liberatore and Bruce Liberatore; grandson, Greg (Melissa) Liberatore; great-grandson, Ryan; and nephew, Donald (Linda) Liberatore.
He was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Mildred (Smith) Liberatore in 2016; and brother, Donald Liberatore in 1990.
