Cayuga County lawmakers on Tuesday night defeated a measure supporting Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s plan to tax online retailers. The Citizen reports several legislators were absent from the special meeting held before the Ways and Means committee meeting, and the weighted voting system led to the defeat of the resolution.
The New York State Association of Counties yesterday called on State Legislators to support Gov. Cuomo’s Internet Fairness and Conformity Act in the 2018-19 state budget. The Assembly’s budget proposal includes the act, but it’s not included in the Senate’s spending plan
Meanwhile, the Ways and Means Committee narrowly passed a resolution to hold a public hearing at the April 24 legislature meeting to get your input on a proposed pay raise. Legislators have not received a raise since 2005, and are considering a measure to increase their annual salary from $10,100 to $15,000.
