A 10 year old girl from Penn Yan was struck by a car while walking on State Route 54 in the town of Torrey Wednesday afternoon.
20 year old Kristen Baker, of Bath, was traveling east around 2:30 when she left her lane to avoid people walking on the side of the road. Investigators with the Yates County Sheriff’s Office say because of high winds, drifting snow and slush, Baker’s car was pulled back into the eastbound lane, where she struck Rachel Martin. Martin was taken to Soldiers and Sailors Hospital by Penn Yan Ambulance for treatment of back pain.
No tickets were issued.
Penn Yan and Dresden firefighters also responded to the scene.
