The Ginna nuclear power plant is operating at 74% of its capacity after an off site power problem was discovered last week.
A transformer-operated by Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation began leaking oil. That caused a problem with gauges at Ginna. Federal regulators and the plant’s owner, Exelon Generation, say the problems do no present any safety concerns.
The Democrat and Chronicle reports when running at 100%, Ginna can produce enough electricity to meet the demand for about 500-thousand homes..
