KEUKA PARK—The 21st Annual Celebrate Service … Celebrate Yates (CSCY) Day of Service will be held on Sunday, April 22. Area residents are encouraged to sign up soon to volunteer in this annual event.
Organized by Keuka College, the Yates County Chamber of Commerce, and other community members, CSCY allows volunteers to provide community service on behalf of the county’s non-profit organizations. The 2017 Day of Service saw nearly 300 local residents rake, clean, paint, and plant at 31 non-profit sites across the county. Many served in memory of the late Mike Linehan, longtime Yates County Chamber of Commerce president and CSCY champion since the event’s inception in 1997.
Non-profits within Yates County that wish to host volunteers are encouraged to register online at http://cscy.org. The deadline to become a 2018 CSCY work site is Tuesday, April 3.
April 3 is also the deadline for volunteers to pre-register online at http://cscy.org, especially those in a team. Early registrants receive a free 2018 CSCY T-shirt and can reserve courtesy transportation. Volunteers registering on the day of the event will be assigned individual work placements (no shared/group assignments), and are not eligible for a T-shirt or courtesy transportation.
However, all volunteers can enjoy a courtesy brunch at the Geiser Dining Commons in Keuka College’s Dahlstrom Student Center between 11 a.m. and 12:50 p.m. A kickoff ceremony will follow at 1 p.m. outside Dahlstrom before volunteers depart for work sites.
Day of Service volunteers can also bring new or gently used coats, mittens and other winter wear to designated drop-off boxes near the CSCY check-in area inside Dahlstrom as part of the yearly Bundle Up Yates drive. The items will be distributed to local families in need this fall.
The organizers of CSCY wish to thank the 2017 participants whose contributions made last year’s 20th anniversary such a success: ARC of Yates; Bank of the Finger Lakes; Coach and Equipment; Ferro Corporation; Five Star Bank; Graphic Connections; Keuka College Student Senate, Office of Community Relations & Events, and Office of Student Affairs; Hampton Inn – Penn Yan; Knapp & Schlappi; K-Ventures; Longs’ Cards & Books; Lyons National Bank; Nothnagle Realtors – Hometown Choice/Keuka Lake Offices; Penn Yan Community Health; Penn Yan Elks Lodge #1722; Penn Yan Knights of Columbus Council #10796; Penn Yan Moose Lodge #2030; Phelps Sungas; Stork Insurance Agency; and the Tony Collins ’77 Golf Classic.
