The Auburn Maroons rallied from a 1-0 deficit at the end of the first period and scored 5 unanswered goals to capture the Section 3 Division 2 hockey championship on Monday night, with a 5-1 victory over the Clinton Warriors at the Onondaga War Memorial Arena in Syracuse.
Johnny Malandruccalo scored twice, including a short-handed goal and Jake Morin added a hat trick. Jack Kalabanka was outstanding in net for the Maroons, who advanced to the title game with last Wednesday’s 3-2 overtime victory over New Hartford.
The team was given a police escort as the team bus arrived back in Auburn.
The Maroons move on to the state tournament, and will face Ogdensburg in the opening round on Saturday at 3:00pm. The game will be aired online on our website.
