A Dryden man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty last month to charges of manslaughter and menacing a police officer for the 2016 killing of a UPS driver outside the Ithaca Walmart.
39 year old Justin Barkley was initially charged with second-degree murder and menacing. The Tompkins County man admitted to intentionally causing the death of 52 year old William Schumacher in December of 2016. Barkley shot Schumacher and ran over his body in the parking lot before fleeing the scene. Barkley told police he thought he shot then President-Elect Donald Trump.
As part of the plea, he waived his right to an appeal.
