In what it calls an “extraordinarily difficult business decision” GLK Foods has announced it will close its sauerkraut production facility in Shortsville so it can consolidate operations with its plant in Wisconsin.
The company says production will continue through mid-September, while shipping and receiving will continue through the end of the year. Mike Manikowski, with Ontario County Economic Development, says its an unfortunate decision from a local standpoint.
Manikowski says the first step for them will be to immediately engage their workforce development team with the GLK employees.
When reached for comment Thursday, a GLK spokesperson would not talk with us on the record about the decision. They did release this statement:
“We do not take these decisions lightly, and we recognize the huge impact it will have on our Shortsville employees and their families,” said Ryan M. Downs, GLK president. “We are forever grateful for the hard work and dedication of the Shortsville staff and we intend to support affected employees, both monetarily and through outplacement services, while they transition and search for new employment.”
