Churches are designed to be places of worship, where people can go and praise their God while feeling safe. The feeling of safety might have subsided over the last few years with a rash of shootings at churches across America, most notably last November in Texas when 26 people were murdered on a Sunday. A program being offered this afternoon by the Yates County Sheriff’s office will help in the civilian response to active shooter events. Sheriff Ron Spike says its all about promoting safety.
Sheriff Spike says it helps for people to when they are in public settings like a ballgame or shopping mall, to think about what they should do in case of any emergency.
Today’s program runs from 1 until 2:30 p.m. in the basement of the Penn Yan United Methodist Church.
